South African fruit and vegetable company, The Fruit Spot, faced a distribution challenge when new business opportunities opened for the company in Cape Town.
The Fruit Spot is the fresh produce division of Massmart and has a large perishable goods processing plant in Johannesburg. When Massmart decided to introduce fruit and vegetables to its retail outlets, The Fruit Spot had to move quickly to handle the increased volume nationally.
Serco was tasked with manufacturing and delivering five refrigerated vehicles within two weeks to effect delivery of The Fruit Spot’s products in the Western Cape. The company’s division in Cape Town pulled out all the stops and delivered the units with two days to spare.
Serco’s managing director, Clinton Holcroft, thanked his Cape Town team for going the extra mile. “I am happy to say that this is yet another example of where Serco has been able to meet and exceed exceptional customer requirements, thanks to our national footprint and overall manufacturing capabilities.
“This flexibility certainly helps us to give our customers the edge. The Fruit Spot is a special client having done business with us for the past 10 years.”
