Foton South Africa has achieved a significant milestone in its local growth journey, ranking 7th in total Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) sales and 5th in Medium Commercial Vehicle (MCV) sales for January 2026, according to the latest NAAMSA new vehicle sales report.

The ranking places Foton among South Africa’s leading commercial vehicle brands; an achievement reached in just over a year since its formal market entry. The rapid progress underscores increasing acceptance of Foton’s product offering among South African businesses, fleet operators and commercial buyers.

NAAMSA’s January 2026 figures reflect total manufacturer-reported LCV sales, including bakkies and commercial models. Foton’s strong performance in both the LCV and MCV segments highlights its growing presence in a highly competitive market traditionally dominated by long-established brands.

“Reaching 7th in LCV and 5th in MCV sales in such a short period is a clear validation of our strategy, product relevance and dealer commitment. South African customers are responding positively to vehicles that offer strong capability, modern technology and real value. This milestone motivates us to continue investing in our network, aftersales support and future product offerings,” explains Marius Smal, CEO of Foton South Africa.

Foton currently operates through a national network of 63 dealerships, providing sales, service and parts support across the country. The brand offers a comprehensive range of light and medium commercial vehicles, including the Tunland G7 and the newly launched Tunland V-Series alongside its electric vehicle portfolio, with local assembly scheduled to commence in Gqeberha in the first quarter of 2026.
