DHL Supply Chain South Africa recently secured a major retail contract after Pick n Pay awarded their General Merchandise Distribution (GMD) business to DHL Supply Chain. The contract involves receiving locally procured products at the DHL Plumbago Distribution Centre(DC), the Pick n Pay GMD national stockholding DC, and the container off-loading of all imported containers at the DHL Stroud Place DC in Durban, which will then be line hauled up to the Plumbago DC.
DHL will then distribute product through its extensive primary and secondary networks via a combination of dedicated fleet and third party service providers to Pick n Pay nationally as well as export orders to the Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia and Swaziland countries.
“We are proud to be continuing our partnership with Pick n Pay which started about 5 years ago with DHL Supply Chain jointly implementing a green fields solution with Pick n Pay in Cape Town where DHL Supply Chain successfully managed the transition from a decentralized (direct to store) business to a centralized operation and we now look forward to supporting Pick n Pay GMD business. This is another example of DHL Supply Chain continuing to bring unrivalled solutions to create success for our retail customers around the globe,” says Paul Stone, DHL Supply Chain CEO Africa & MD South Africa.
