TATA Motors has introduced AMT technology to its Starbus and Ultra range of buses used in India.
A company statement says the transmission has been developed for buses that ply urban routes with a view to offering better comfort for passengers and easier operation for drivers.
AMT – which considers engine torque, vehicle load and road inclination before automatically engaging the vehicle’s clutch and shifting gear – is designed to optimise change points and reduce jerkiness.
“Tata’s innovative new products and services have always led the way in the Indian commercial vehicle industry. The launch of our range of AMT buses is another example of how best we understand our customers,” says Ravi Pisharody, executive director of Tata Motors’ Commercial Vehicles division.
